Vice President Kamala Harris will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this weekend. It will be their first-ever engagement, and it comes as Russia amasses forces on Ukraine's border.
Harris leads the US delegation to the Munich Security Conference in Germany.
The vice president will maintain a "very intense" schedule when she is in Munich, officials say. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin is in Germany for the Munich Security Conference, where he will discuss Russia's buildup on Ukraine's border and the US readiness to further reinforce NATO allies on the eastern flank.
"We are in a fluid situation" but determined to stand together with our allies, a senior administration official said. The trip is the highest and most public engagement so far from the White House on Russia that Harris has had on the issue.
